Angelus Central European Literature Award
Established in 2006, the award is given yearly prose books written published in Poland and by writers from Central Europe who undertake themes the most relevant to the present day, encourage reflection and expand the knowledge of other cultures. Angelus Award, in the amount of 150 000 PLN, is funded by the city of Wrocław. The name comes from Silesian Baroque poet Angelus Silesius. Since 2010, the award is also presented to authors of the best translations (40 000 PLN). In 2015, Natalya Gorbanevskaya Readers’ Award was established to honour the first chairperson of Angelus jury, and since 2020 the winner is invited for a literary residency in Wrocław. Since the same year, all finalists receive a financial award of 5000 PLN. The operator of the award is Wrocław Literature House.
